“When we engage in what we are naturally suited to do, our work takes on the quality of play and it is play that stimulates creativity.” – Linda Naiman
You know how people say that when you are doing something that you love, you will never work a day in your life? Well, I haven’t really worked in a while. Sure, my resume says otherwise, but to me my career has been everything but a run-of-the-mill job.
I started my career in new media back in 2004 working as a photographer and freelance writer while working my way though college. During this time I was lucky enough to find myself working with a variety of well known publications such as the Calgary Herald, Fort MacLeod Gazette, Hockey Now, as well as working as an editor for SAIT’s student newspaper, The Weal.
I graduated from the Southern Alberta Institute of technology with an honors diploma in Journalism Arts with a major in photojournalism in 2006, and went on to work as a freelance photographer and production manager working with Calgary’s corporate community.
As I became more involved in design work, and the evolution of digital media, I decided to hit the books once more to complete SAIT Polytechnic’s New Media Production and Design program. It was here where I was finally able to take my design and web skills to the next level.
I went on to gain great opportunities by working within SAIT’s academic community, including an award winning webmaster position at The Weal, and a web development contract with the School of Business. I have since graduated from the program with another honors diploma, along with Adobe certification in Visual Communication using Adobe Photoshop® and Rich Media Communication using Adobe Flash®.
I am currently available for freelance photography and graphic design work and have extensive experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, QuarkXpress, Dreamweaver, XHTML, CSS, PHP, and a little bit of JavaScript.
Another little tid bit I would like to mention is that I am also currently a partner of Pop Rocket Studios, a small personal photography company that focuses on uniquely inspired portraiture. This new venture opened up in June of 2009 and is the brainchild of myself and Jennifer Sutton. We hope to see our venture blossom in the years to come, and look forward to its continual development.
